CHANDLER, Ariz. Counselors from the Newtown Community Development Corporation, a non-profit organization that promotes affordable housing and innovative home buying programs, are working out of a downtown office provided by the City to help families facing foreclosure or trying to buy their first homes. Previously, Chandler area residents have had to travel to Newtown’s Tempe office to receive guidance.

Counselors are available on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the offices of the City’s Neighborhood Resources Division, 235 S. Arizona Ave.  Appoint-ments can be made by calling Newtown at 480-517-1589.

Foreclosure prevention counselors can help homeowners address problems with their mortgage and find the best solution to their current situation. They have experience with loan modifications and can help address job loss, reduced wages or hours and have expert knowledge of the Save My Home Arizona, Making Home Affordable (HAMP), and other state and federal programs.

People interested in buying a home can receive a free credit report and meet with a certified housing counselor to analyze their credit and current buying power.

Counselors can help resolve credit issues, provide information about down payment assistance and other resources, including Newtown's matching funds program, as well as help families with credit scores as low as 620 qualify for a home loan.
