Arizona- February 1,
2014 - On Saturday, February 1st, the Boys Scouts Grand Canyon chapter will be
conducting their annual Scouting for Food Drive, helping food banks all over
the valley, including United Food Bank.
This food drive is huge for United Food Bank and its partner
agencies, bringing in more than 130,000 pounds of food in just one morning!
“It’s a sight to see. There is a constant flow of trucks unloading
bins filled to the brim with food,” said Melissa Forrester, Community Outreach
Coordinator at United Food Bank. “Right now we are down about a million pounds
of food in comparison to last year, so we could not be more thankful for the help
of the Boy Scouts and the folks who are donating.”
How do they do it? In the next 2 weeks, Boy Scouts will be going
out into the community and distributing flyers inviting people to donate food
from their cupboards or pick up a few extra cans at the grocery store.
They will be going door to door in neighborhoods all over
the valley on Saturday morning, February 1st to collect the food- so have your cans ready! Visit
www.GrandCanyonBSA.org for more
information about Scouting for Food.
