Offers free large coolers to schools and other organized teams
to avoid heat related injuries
RALEIGH, N.C., July 27, 2011 – FastMed Urgent Care announced today the “Keep Cooler Program” that donates free five gallon Igloo water coolers to any school (grade school, high school or college, private or public) or other organized sports teams in 19 communities throughout North Carolina and five communities in the Phoenix, AZ area. The Keep Cooler Program supports healthy hydration among athletes in the communities FastMed serves, particularly during outside play in the hotter months, to help avoid heat related injuries and very serious health complications. (Note that the Phoenix locations are known today as Urgent Care Express but will be renamed FastMed in August.)
“Every year we see athletes at our FastMed clinics who suffer from dehydration, heat related cramps and other complications that are a direct result of not having enough fluids during sporting activities in extreme heat,” said Jason A. Williams, MPAS, Ph.D, President and CEO, Eastern Region, FastMed Urgent Care. “Our FastMed team developed the Keep Cooler program because we wanted to provide local sports teams with one easy step in protecting themselves from heat related injuries – drinking more fluids.”
The FastMed Keep Cooler Program provides a free large cooler to each sports team or coach that contacts FastMed (see contact information below). The communities where FastMed is focusing the Keep Cooler Program are in:
North Carolina: Asheville; Boone; Burlington; Cary; Charlotte; Clayton; Concord; Fuquay; Garner; Greensboro; Hendersonville; Holly Springs; Monroe; Mooresville; Raleigh; Sanford; Wake Forest; Wilkesboro; Winston-Salem.

“In Arizona , we know that heat is serious business and can’t be taken lightly, particularly when engaging in sports activities outside,” said Michael P. Dunn, MD, chief medical officer of FastMed , Arizona . “The FastMed team in Arizona is very happy to be able to supply our area communities with Keep Cooler coolers because making sure our athletes are well hydrated is the best defense against serious heat related injuries.”
