CHANDLER, Ariz. --- Councilmember Rick Heumann was named Secretary/Treasurer to the Arizona Municipal Water Users Association (AMWUA) for 2011/2012 fiscal year during its board meeting last week.

AMWUA is a non-profit organization through which member cities and towns advance the rational and effective use of water resources within the state, and position cities and towns in the forefront of water resources policy development and planning.

“We manage water in Chandler very carefully, and being able to work cooperatively with other cities through AMWUA gives us a voice in water issues that affect our entire state,” said Heumann. “Careful planning now will benefit Arizona for generations.”

Councilmember Heumann began his tenure on the Chandler City Council in January 2009 and has an extensive history of public service. He has been heavily involved in neighborhood issues throughout Chandler over the past 15 years, and has served as Board President with two different Homeowners Associations. He is a board member with the Desert Cancer Foundation and has served as an ex officio board member of the Downtown Chandler Community Partnership.
He also has an extensive history of service to the City of Chandler as member of the Chandler Parks and Recreation Commission and as a member, Vice Chair and Chair of the Planning and Zoning Commission. He co-chaired the 2007 Chandler City Bond Election Committee, and chaired the 1999 Transportation Bond Election Committee. He served on the hiring committee for the current police chief and has been a member of Chandler’s CERT team since 2002.
