City to install large electronic message signs to aid motorists

Chandler, AZ– Two large electronic signs, called Dynamic Message Signs (DMS), will be installed this month on northbound Arizona Ave. and northbound Price Rd. south of the Loop 202 Santan Freeway to alert motorists of traffice conditions along their route.

The signs will provide travel time information for motorists planning to get on the freeway, as well as warn motorists of traffic accidents or freeway congestion so they can choose alternate routes if desired.

The signs will utilize white Light Emitting Diodes (LED) to display the information, to include Amber Alerts and emergency messages, and will link to the City’s Traffic Management Center in downtown Chandler, as well as the Arizona Department of Transportation’s Freeway Management System.

The signs were purchased for $125,200 from Skyline Products of Colorado Springs, Colorado, using federal Congestion Mitigation Air Quality grant funds. They will be installed by C.S. Construction of Phoenix over a three week period beginning the week of May 23.
